Tonson Back is a UI/UX Designer who has been living, learning and working in the San Francisco Bay Area
for the last decade. She has designed the web and mobile presence of tech startups, mobile games and
rewards platforms for customers, players, internal tool users and B2B clients.
Tonson’s namesake means “Pine Tree”, a strong tree with connections to Winter snows and celebrating Christmas,
both of which are uncommon in her native Thailand. Tonson grew up in Nakhon Pathom, a town outside of Bangkok
as the oldest of three sisters (who also get their name from trees!). She was the only one in the family
to take an interest in the visual arts, graduating with a BFA in Fine and Applied arts from Burapha University.
She began her career as a Graphic Designer in print and advertising where she ran campaigns for big brands
like L’Oreal and Lays, eventually becoming Group Head Designer for Salad Co. LTD. As much as she enjoyed
working in graphic design, she felt she could learn much more by moving fields into the digital space,
which is what sent her to San Francisco. A few years later she graduated with an MFA in Web Design and New Media
and began a career in UI/UX Design.
Tonson’s background in graphic design coupled with her passion for learning new techniques and “Micro-Design”
attention to detail have helped her thrive in the startup tech world. She created the Brand Identity and
numerous product flows for Emprove Inc, and spearheaded designs for the rewards platform at PlayStudios Inc.
Tonson is always looking for new challenges that can teach her new skills and put her design chops to the test.
